Originally a Church or Parish House where people would gather for a chat after church services and enjoy a sip of the church brew. Evidence of the building’s age can be seen in the Snug area of the bar where there is dated Graffiti from 1649 and some even earlier. The pub still maintains many original features such as fireplaces, old oak beams and a beautiful piece of linen fold panelling in the Lounge Bar Area.

We have an enviable reputation for serving excellent, mouthwatering dishes and guarantee all our ingredients are locally sourced from within a radius of 30 miles and all prepared to the highest standards by our talented and experienced chef. The George makes an ideal base for exploring this beautiful part of Devon, with all the interesting places to visit nearby our well appointed, cottage style rooms are just perfect for overnight or longer stays.

We also have a fantastic skittle alley which is available for private hire and regularly hold quiz nights and you can also enjoy a game or two of pool or darts. See our entertainment.

The George Inn is still the heart of the village and has a wonderful warm atmosphere to go with its bustling trade - especially over the weekends. Several of the locals have been drinking in the George for over 40 years and they can be usually found in 'Compost Corner' where they are happy to expand on the changes that have taken place both in the village and the pub over the years.
